A quick glance at the specs above and it’s clear that this is quite the lopsided comparison. The fresh new Mazda CX-50 Hybrid holds many advantages over the Honda CR-V Hybrid, ranging from power output and towing capacity to front legroom and headroom and standard interior features.
Thanks to its 219-horsepower 2.5-liter gas-electric hybrid engine, the 2025 Mazda CX-50 Hybrid outpowers many other hybrid SUVs, the Honda CR-V Hybrid included. Its robust engine and standard electronic all-wheel drive (e-AWD) also aid in the towing department, with the Mazda model once again topping the Honda hybrid.
When properly equipped, the Mazda CX-50 Hybrid can pull up to 1,500 pounds – 500 pounds more than its Honda rival.
Both models rely on an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission (e-CVT) that optimizes your drive for efficiency. In base form, the Honda CR-V Hybrid and its standard front-wheel drive tops the Mazda model in EPA-estimated MPG ratings, but not by a wide margin. Add in the Honda CR-V Hybrid SUV’s optional AWD system, and the fuel efficiency difference becomes even more minimal.
Both hybrid SUV models come in three trim levels. The 2025 Mazda CX-50 Hybrid is offered in the Preferred, Premium, and Premium Plus equipment groups, while the Honda model comes in Sport Hybrid, Sport-L Hybrid, and Sport Touring Hybrid grades.
That’s about where the similarities end, though, as the Mazda CX-50 Hybrid comes out of the gate swinging with its substantially more generous standard features list.
Some of the key standard amenities you can enjoy from the new Mazda CX-50 Hybrid for sale include the following:

The 2025 Honda CR-V Hybrid lacks much of the standard equipment you’ll get with the Mazda SUV. Still, it comes with the following features as standard:
Would you trade more power, towing capacity, front headroom and legroom, and upscale standard creature comforts and technology for only slightly better fuel efficiency? If the answer is “no,” then you’ll want to pass on the Honda CR-V Hybrid and drop by our Mazda dealership in Fort Lauderdale to test-drive the new Mazda CX-50 Hybrid instead.

“Oooh that’s an hard one… But for me, the CX50 takes the lead. The CRV is nice, but behind the CX50 in terms of interior quality (Mazda’s are just really nice places to be and drive), powertrain (using a Toyota powertrain = guaranteed efficiency/performance ratio, plus the i-MMD of the CRV is a bit underpowered for it’s size), and the driving experience is really nice behind the wheel of mazda’s in general. So yeah, CX50 all the way imo. (I’m even kinda jealous we don’t get this CX50 in Europe…)”

The Mazda CX-50 Hybrid differs from the Honda CR-V Hybrid in many ways. For instance, the Mazda SUV has a more potent 219-horsepower engine and AWD as standard, while the Honda model settles for 204 horsepower and FWD, with optional AWD. The Mazda CX-50 Hybrid has a 10.25-inch infotainment display, while the Honda CR-V Hybrid gets a smaller 7-inch display as standard.
The key difference in towing capacity is that the Mazda CX-50 Hybrid offers more of it. This Mazda SUV can tow up to 1,500 pounds when properly equipped, thanks to its more potent engine, standard AWD, and other factors. The Honda CR-V Hybrid only manages to offer a 1,000-pound towing capacity when properly equipped. Discover other differences at our dealership.
The Honda CR-V Hybrid has slightly better fuel efficiency, with an EPA-estimated 43/36 (City/Highway)4 rating with its standard front-wheel drive. The all-wheel-drive Mazda CX-50 Hybrid isn’t far off, though, earning an EPA-estimated 39/37 (City/Highway)3 rating. Test-drive the stronger and more capable Mazda CX-50 Hybrid at your Mazda dealer.
